The Truth Behind Glowing

 Tuesday, February 8, 2011

Have you ever heard a pregnant woman be described as 'glowing'?  I think it is a fairly common phrase associated with pregnancy.  Its suppose to mean that your skin has a radiance/glow to it.  This glow is created by the oils in the skin.  But for those of us who have oily skin to begin with "glowing" means acne.

I've never had an issue with acne.  Don't get me wrong I would a have a breakout just before my period but nothing worth getting upset over.  At the age of 25 I thought the fight for clear skin was over, at least until now.  I now have a consistant battle with acne.  From what I read the best thing to do is to wash twice daily with a gentle cleanser and finish with a light moisturizing lotion.

True or False:  Many acne treatment medications can harm a developing fetus and must be avoided during pregnancy?  True.  Everything you eat, apply, and come into contact with may affect your baby.  Some topical ingredients get absorbed into the bloodstream and should be avoided.  If you have any concerns about your skin care regime ask your OB/GYN for advice.
